Wallasey was founded in 1891 and laid out by Old Tom Morris. It was once described as the Diamond in the Dunes and that is an apt description of a rugged links hewn from rough dune land close to the Irish Sea. It is also the home of golf’s Stableford scoring system and as such has a lasting place in the annals of the worldwide game. It has twice staged the Amateur Championship, and has also hosted Final Qualifying for the Open Championship.
